Cash Gifts

Blame it on my parentage, but I've always thought that the Chinese tradition of giving cash (or gift checks) for weddings, Chinese New Year, birthdays etc. is actually very practical.

When I was getting married, I wanted to put a hint that I would prefer cash over other gifts, but decided against actually writing it down on the invitation because it IS tacky to do that.

Spare yourself the hassle and give what the newlyweds (or birthday celebrant) actually want and need, but are too embarrassed to say so (because it's not in good taste to say so). Give CASH!

Here are the advantages:
  • Very portable. Not bulky at all. Easy to carry, for both the giver and the receiver.
  • No need to shop around for what the recipient wants.
  • It's sure to be appreciated.
  • Very versatile, can be used to buy whatever the recipient wants or needs, or can be put away in the bank, or put in investments to grow.
So, what do YOU think?
