Weight Loss after Childbirth

Many pregnant women gain a lot of weight during pregnancy and never get back to their pre-pregnancy weight. I was lucky. I lost all my excess poundage within three months after giving birth without having to diet (in fact I ate more because I was breastfeeding and was constantly hungry), exercise, or looking around for the best weight loss pills. My shape, however, is not what it used to be.

My secrets for losing what I have gained:
- Not gaining too much weight. I gained a grand total of thirty (30) pounds throughout my entire pregnancy, which is more or less within the recommended weight gain (25-25 pounds). The average weight gain should be about 2-4 pounds during the first trimester, then a pound a week for the rest of the pregnancy. Of course, there are variations if you are overweight or underweight. But you should NOT lose weight, however, during this time.

Any weight gain above this is NOT going away soon after you have your baby.

- I breastfed for 1 year and 10 months. This is because my fat was used to produce milk :).
