The more menial stuff, that is. Especially the ones which take a lot of time away from the more important work.

When you have all the time in the world, it's okay to multitask and do everything. But when the time comes when 24 hours in a day is not important, it may be better to just hire somebody else to do the job that require less of your attention, especially if such a job is either not your expertise or something that you'd rather not be doing.

For example, I'd rather not stress over the nitty gritty of tax preparation, so I hire retainer accountant to do the job for me. What I simply do is submit the required information and paper to my accountant and she does the rest -- process the papers, compute the needed taxes, go to the BIR at the right date. Less hassle and less need for eye cream for me in the long run. And of course, she does it much better than I do, so it's money well spent.

Saving Up

My husband and I are going through a stage of saving right now. That's because Baby#2 is well on her way, and I'm due to give birth around the same time that my eldest is starting another school year. So we've made a pact to set aside a certain amount of money every month in order to save enough money for both events and to just limit our individual spending to the bare minimum. That means that there should be no unnecessary purchases (definitely no new camera, no Berkline furniture etc. for the moment).

Will this work for us? It should. The trick here is estimate the total amount of money that you are expecting to spend, divide it by the number of months before the expected date when the money is due, and mutually commit to put aside that amount EVERY month in a separate bank account, before you spend the rest of the money. You can modify this to weeks or even days, depending on how much control you have on spending.

We're hoping that this strategy would ensure that we have enough money when the time comes. I believe this will actually work for us, and it could work for you too!

Consider The Distance of Your Hotel

I was able to attend a convention in New Orleans way back 1998. Since it was a long way from home, I got my mother to accompany me and we made it a sight seeing trip as well with stops in other cities. Because of budget and time constraints, we got a hotel on the outskirts of New Orleans.

Looking back, that has probably made it inconvenient for both of us. Although there were shuttle buses to and from the convention center, the "last trip" was at 7 pm so if we want to avail of the free ride, we had to leave at that time. We missed the famous nightlife of New Orleans. :( The only time we didn't take the shuttle bus, we paid 14 dollars (if memory serves me right) just for a trip back to our hotel!

I'm more inclined now to think that it might be better to get a place to stay right in the middle of the action, so we may be able to see more of the sights and hear more of the sounds that the place has to offer. I've heard there might be convention in San Diego soon, so I might just canvas for a good downtown San Diego hotel online so I can get better choices as to my choice of accommodations.

Beat The Heat!

It's now summertime here in the Philippines and temperatures here in Manila reach 35-38 degrees Celsius! Turning on the air conditioner, however, is not always practical as electrical bills soar in the midst of the current economic crisis.

A cool shower usually does the trick for me. No heating of the water (which saves some energy too), then I use a shampoo and body wash containing some minty additive. Currently I'm using Head and Shoulders with menthol and Safeguard Body Wash with menthol, but I believe there are other brands out there in the market. The cool minty sensation makes the skin a little less warm for longer periods of time.

Due Dates For Bills

What I do so that I can plan paying for the different bills is to put down the due dates on my desk calendar whenever I get a bill. This way I could budget for it AND not completely forget about the day when I'm supposed to pay the dues.

Of course, if I happen to have an errand that will take me around the area where I'm supposed to pay, I try to drop by to pay the bill so that I don't have to come back, saving me an extra trip.

When the bill has been paid, I put a check mark on my calendar reminder.

Try it. It may just work for you. It certainly made bill paying much more efficient for me.

Wholesale Computers

It cannot be denied that today's offices and workplaces now need computers to make operations easier and more efficient. If you have a business and are thinking of modernizing your office and its systems, computerization is a great idea. If your problem is budget, you can actually get wholesale computers for lower costs. That would benefit your company in the long run, with increased efficiency of all processes.
