Ask For Freebies

When buying appliances, some stores offer freebies. You have to ask for it if they didn't mention it, though, because sometimes if you didn't ask they won't bother. For example, many television sets, especially the high end and big ones come with a free tv stand that would cost you at least a thousand pesos or even more if you buy it separately. Airconditioner units may come with a free electric fan. Washing machines may come with a flat iron, or some powder detergent, or a laundry basket.

Nothing is lost if you just ask. In fact, you may actually gain some freebie.

More On Vacation Planning

In my previous post, I've said that you should have an idea on what you want on your vacation. Aside from that, you should have a clear idea of how much your budget is and where you want to go, and of course, when you can go. What kind of accommodations you want and the number of people in your party would also be important things to consider.

Once you have a more or less concrete idea of that vacation, you can then research on a specific place that you're eyeing. For example, if you are looking at a holiday in the Outer Banks in North Carolina and a house is what you want, click on this link: Outer Banks rentals, then put in the required information (arrival day/date, number of bedrooms, price range and specific area). Voila! All the houses that fit your requirements will come out! You can check the description of the house and even book it online! Even better, the cost per day, and the cost per bedroom per day would come out.

Focus On What You Want In A Vacation

We all have different wants when it comes to vacations. Some prefer a more laid back place where relaxation and getting-away-from-it-all is of the most importance. Some prefer a more cosmopolitan, happening, partying place, while some others would prefer a more "cultural" experience.

The internet has actually made researching for the "perfect vacation" easier. For example, you can find different types of vacations on the Riviera Maya itself, all under Karisma resorts.

For example, if it's a family vacation you want, Azul Beach Resorts seem to be the best choice, with its amenities not only for adults but also for kids. If its a "stress free" vacation you want, there's Azul Blue which promise the ultimate in pampering. There's romantic El Dorado Royale where you can actually have a worry free beach wedding if you want to, and El Dorado Suites if you want an adult-only resort. There's even one for nudists, the Hidden Beach Resort.

That's only from one place! Imagine all the places you can research on the net. You should also ask about your internet researched places from friends and online buddies, get any feedback.

Good luck on your vacation!

Restos vs. Catered Affair

I'm somewhat in the thick of preparations for my baby R's baptism and E's 4th birthday. Somewhat because I'm not as OC as other moms are. I just need a place where we can have our reception. No frills, just good food and talking between friends. I'll reserve the big bash for the first birthday celebration next year.

Since I'm not looking at an elaborate affair, I'd go for a restaurant rather than get a venue and catering, so that there would be less work involved. Less costs, less worries (equals less wrinkles so no need to look for the best wrinkle creams). In fact, the church (Christ The King) I chose has less requirements (no seminars) and less cost than others.

Bottomline is: I want my baby baptized, I want a double celebration for the Christening and my eldest's birthday and that's what I'm going to get. Within my budget.

Stay Healthy!

Without adequate health coverage via health insurance or a health maintenance organization (for example, Blue Cross Blue Shield NC), a single confinement in a hospital, depending on your condition, could wipe out all your savings.

So try to live healthy. Stay away from vices like smoking, drugs, too much alcohol. Get enough rest and relaxation. Eat healthy.

Although this does not guarantee that we won't ever get sick, we can at least minimize the chances of preventable diseases.

Double Celebration

To cut down on costs, I'm holding a double celebration for my daughter's Christening and my son's forth birthday. I'll only be inviting family members and the godparents.

But I'm cramming! It will be next month and I haven't done any canvassing yet. I have to do so because I am on a tight budget. What I need is a place which serves good yet affordable food. Preferably a buffet so people won't complain about the (lack of) food. (Whether they'll need apidexin later is their problem, not mine!)

Wish me luck!

World Breastfeeding Week

It's World Breastfeeding Week and while I'm not out there celebrating it with the rest for the hordes, I'm practicing it myself. I encourage all moms to seriously consider breastfeeding their babies!

I'm currently 7 weeks post-Cesarean section. For the past 2 days, I noted a loss of 2 pounds. No diet, no exercise, none of any of those top rated diet pills. I'm attributing this to breastfeeding. I've been purely breastfeeding my almost-seven-week-old daughter and I want to continue to do for at least a year. I breastfed my firstborn for 1 year and 10 and a half months and I know I could do the same for my daughter.

The benefits of breastfeeding are outlined here: http://www.joeymd.com/2009/08/04/world-breastfeeding-week/

Las Vegas - Not Just For Adults

If you have kids, you may want to consider taking Vegas vacations. While there are still the requisite adult entertainment - gambling, topless girlie shows, quickie weddings (does that even qualify as entertainment? LOL), there are also a whole lot of activities for the kids and the rest of the family. Walk around Las Vegas at night and you get free shows like the volcano at the Mirage, the water show at the Bellagio, the pirate show at Treasure Island. Even walking around the famed hotels is an experience in itself.

There are also shows that are family oriented and are suitable for both kids and adults. Hotels also tend to be reasonably priced. Next time I go to USA (hopefully with my family), this will be part of our itinerary.

Compare Prices

There's actually a website online where you can allegedly find the lowest prices for the different diet pills! You see, sometimes supplements which address vanity (weight loss, wrinkle removal, skin whitening etc) sometimes sell for outrageous prices. So it's best to do price comparison too.

That being said, it's better to consult a doctor specializing in weight loss before starting on any weight loss regimen.

New Look For Our Kitchen

My mother wanted a new look for her kitchen countertop, so she had granite tiles installed. The problem with granite tiles is that it is more expensive than either ceramic or porcelain tiles, however it is more durable and looks elegant. But since it is a natural stone, there are few variations on its color.

However, you can consider porcelain tiles if you want more variety in color and design and you are on a budget. It is also quite durable and cleans up quite nicely.
