Closed For Business

For the weeks following the onslaught of Ondoy, only my husband has been back to Marikina for cleanup. We have deferred our weekly trip to my in-law's house because the house is a mess. Maybe it's a good thing for me and the kids. I feel depressed everytime my husband describes the place, and I'm sure I'll be even more so if I actually see the house in the post-flood state. As for the kids, we really do not want them to pick up any flood-related microbe.

My husband tells me that it's so heartbreaking. Marikina is now almost like a ghost town. Business establishments are closed for rehabilitation and renovation, even the familiar McDonald's. I'm sure a lot of small business owners do not even have business insurance to cover for their losses. Now following this experience, I would believe that having such an insurance is a need, since we do not really know what happens when nature unleashes her fury, leaving losses to both life and property in her wake.
