Car accident

Almost a year ago, I had a minor accident involving my car. I was so shocked. I didn't see her car before it appeared before me. The rear of the other car and the front of mine collided. The driver of the other car said that it was my fault and I really thought it was, therefore I decided to pay the damages. Good thing I had car insurance. The damage was just minor scratches on the car. Nobody was injured.

Anyway, the next month, this "lady" was harassing me about paying damages. They wanted me to give them cash, and they do not want to wait for the insurance to pay for repairs. It was my first time to deal with such a situation. I had already informed my insurance, but they wanted a specific, high end shop to repair their car. I called up my insurance again. I was assured that I am covered for anything in any accident, up to a limit of course. If the other party had decided to press charges, they have lawyers on standby, too.

I later reviewed mentally the case with my husband, studied the pictures of the damages to both our cars, then I realized, hey, it was not my fault at all! It was actually her fault. I didn't see her coming because she was behind another vehicle. I was making a left turn and the vehicle in front of her stopped to let me pass. She was in a hurry and decided to overtake the vehicle in front of her, thus going in my path! She was even speeding. It explained why there was a long gash on her rear -- coz she was moving and I was hardly moving (since I was manuevering to turn)! The nerve of her trying to pass on the blame to me! And she was actually shouting at me over the phone the last few times she called!

Anyway, since I've already set things in motion, I just decided to let insurance take care of it. She may have won a partial victory (having my insurance pay for her damages) but I really didn't want trouble, which she was.

Lesson for me: Don't immediately assume that the fault is mine.

And have a good insurance policy, or a good lawyer. If you're in Texas and need an Austin personal injury attorney, look up O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath – Personal Injury Lawyers – 808 West Avenue, Austin, TX. 78701 – 512-494-9949.  Oftentimes, it pays to have other people take care of such messy businesses.  Saves a lot of stress.
